I've been contacted by several people inquiring about using the surface mount thermocouple connector in their projects and products in quantities of several thousand per year. I'm starting this thread as a place to discuss how we can organize the next production run to give everyone the best price.
In the first production batch I made 10,000 pieces even though I only needed 1,600 pieces to cover the first T400 production run. I'm doing another T400 production run in the next month, which will leave approximately 5,000 available. That many would easily serve the hobbyists for quote a while, but one of the larger interested parties could easily use up the current inventory. I'd love to do another production run of the connectors to meet everyone's needs, but would like to avoid over producing.
I'm basically trying to determine if everyone's needs can be met with the current available inventory of 5,000 or should I product more connectors. If I'm confident that we'll need more than 5,000, I will kick another production run. Perhaps the best approach would be to do a group buy using Kickstarter or other platform. My initial thought is to run a Kickstarter with a goal of 5,000 pieces, so I know the interest exceeds the current inventory. Once I know I have to make another production run I would probably do maybe 20,000 or so since most of the cost is in the setup and the work involved in finding a new factory.
So what do you think? Is anyone interested in a Kickstarter for the surface mount thermocouple connector?
